Early life and education
Rekha Gupta was born on 19 July 1974 in Julana, Haryana. His father Jai Bhagwan was a manager in Bank of India, due to which his family settled in Delhi. Rekha graduated in Commerce (B.Com) from Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi and later received a master’s degree in management and art. He also studied law and worked in advocacy for some time.
Beginning of political career
In 1992, Rekha Gupta started her political journey from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She became the secretary of Daulat Ram College in 1994–95, and was elected President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1996-97. Subsequently, in 2003-04, he served as Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Delhi.
In 2007 and 2012, Rekha Gupta was elected corporation councilor from North Pitampura (Ward 54). During this time, she presided over the Women’s Welfare and Child Development Committee and established facilities like swimming pool, gym, library and community hall in her area. He organized health check -up camps for women and children and conducted awareness campaigns against women feticide and child labor.
Chief Minister of Delhi
In the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, Rekha Gupta defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Vandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh seat by 29,595 votes. After this victory, the BJP Legislature Party chose her leader, and she became the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has played an important role in his appointment.
