6 big benefits available to ration card holders
1. Free ration
Every eligible person will get 5 kg free ration every month. This will include wheat and rice.
2. Monthly financial assistance
Financial assistance of Rs 1000 will be sent directly to each family’s bank account every month. This amount will help in the family expenses.
3. Food Security
This scheme will provide food security to poor families, which will free them from food worries.

Eligibility Criteria
To avail the benefits of this scheme, beneficiaries must fulfill the following criteria:
- It is mandatory to be a ration card holder
- Annual income should be less than Rs 1 lakh
- E-KYC of ration card must be complete
- Must be a BPL or Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card holder.
- There should not be any government employee in the family
Change in items available in ration
The quantity of wheat and rice available on ration cards has been revised from January 1, 2025:
- Before: 3 kg rice and 2 kg wheat
- Now: 2.5 kg rice and 2 kg wheat
In this way, the quantity of rice has been reduced by 0.5 kg.
Changes for Antyodaya Ration Card holders:
- Before: 14 kg wheat and 21 kg rice
- Now: 18 kg rice and 17 kg wheat
The total quantity has been maintained at 35 kg.
Mandatory e-KYC
To avail the benefits of the scheme, it is very important to get e-KYC done for the ration card. The government has fixed its last date as 31 December 2024. Those who do not get e-KYC done by this date, their ration card may be cancelled.
How to do e-KYC?
- Visit the website of your state’s Food and Civil Supplies Department
- Go to e-KYC section
- Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number
- Complete verification by entering OTP
- Upload required documents
- You will receive a confirmation message once the process is complete.
New Rules and Restrictions
The scheme also has some important restrictions:
- People owning a flat larger than 100 square meters or a four-wheeler in urban areas will not be eligible for this scheme.
- In rural areas, families having plots or tractors larger than 100 square meters will be left out of the scheme.
- The annual income limit in urban areas will be up to Rs 3 lakh.
- In rural areas the annual income limit will be up to Rs 2 lakh.
