Environmental pollution is a major problem that our country is facing today – water pollution is a part of it. This has come as a result of rapid industrialization. Industrial waste and sewage are freely released into rivers and lakes. Harmful chemicals and other unhygienic materials make their water unsuitable for drinking and other domestic purposes. The polluted water is also not suitable for irrigation and fisheries or other allied activities. Efforts should be made to create awareness among the people and prevent water pollution.

Save Trees, Save Life
As we all know that trees are very useful for us. They provide food and act as a shelter for humans and animals. They keep the environment clean and healthy by inhaling harmful carbon dioxide gas and taking out the life-giving gas oxygen. Thus, they maintain the balance of these gases in nature. They also help in bringing rain, which fulfills our water needs. So we can say that trees are very essential for life. Nevertheless, today trees are being cut ruthlessly and ruthlessly for personal and commercial gain. Large forests are now cleared in one go. This mass clearing of trees is called deforestation. The rate of deforestation is increasing today regardless of how life on earth would be possible without them. We can imagine what would happen without oxygen and water. Thus, if we want life on earth, we must save trees from being cut down. That’s why we should always say – save trees, save lives.
5. The picture below shows the various forms of child labour. Write in about 150 to 200 words describing the picture and give at least two suggestions on how to educate these children continuously. [2015]
Answer:
Child Labour
Childhood is the best period of life. It is tragic that millions of children are forced to work instead of enjoying this period of life. It is ironic that while the youth is at large unemployed children are forced to work. Barefooted lean and thin children can be seen working at dhabas, industries, construction sites, and even houses. Others can be seen selling newspapers, assisting motor mechanics & masons, working in factories, and even begging. They are forced to work in unhealthy conditions for even fifteen to sixteen hours. They are ill-fed and ill-clad. They are beaten on trivial issues. They are ill-treated and underpaid. They are engaged in a firecracker, match factories, chemical factories, carpet industry, silk industry, and mining.
Moreover, they are bought and sold like commodities. Poverty and lack of education are the chief causes of it. Girls are more likely to be kept away from school, made to do the household work and. fall prey to child trafficking. The child labor act 1986, The Juvenile Justice of children Act 2000 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 besides the efforts of NGOs like Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Care India, Pratham are not sufficient to tackle this problem. It requires an effort from all the people. People should be made aware of the problems of deprived and exploited children. The defaulters should be punished.
