99 Songs is a 2021 Indian multilingual musical romance film, directed by Vishwesh Krishnamurthy, and co-written and produced by AR Rahman (his youth production banner YM Movies), making his debut in both roles in addition to the original composition Does.

Rahman wrote the screenplay for the film in 2011, with Eros International initially announcing the production of the film in August 2013.  After Eros opted out of the project, Rahman said that he would produce the film under his banner YM Movies.  

The film marks Vishwesh’s first directorial career as an advertising filmmaker, before Rahman offered to direct him for his production.  Vishvesh is also a musician, famous for the Mumbai-based hardcore band Scribe.  

The scripting and final process continued for four years before the film was officially announced in June 2015.  Casting process done by Mukesh Chhabra;  There were about 1,000 auditions, until the producers finalized Ehn and Edilsey as the lead actors.

Production of the film quietly went ahead in March 2017 and finished within a year.  Cinematography for the film was jointly handled by Tanay Satam and James Cowley, while editing was done by Akshay Mehta and Shreyas Beltendi.  

The dialogues of the film were written by Hussain Dalal, Gautam Menon and Kiran wrote dialogues for Tamil and Telugu versions. For the Tamil version, g. V.  Prakash Kumar and Khatija Rahman provided voice for the film’s lead cast.

The world premiere of 99 songs was held at the 24th Busan International Film Festival, held in Busan, South Korea, where the film was screened in the Open Cinema category on 9 October 2019.  

The film is scheduled to release on 16 April 2021.  And will be dubbed and released in Tamil and Telugu under the same name.

Development: A. R.  Rahman, who started his new production company YM Movies in August 2013, said he would produce a script he wrote in 2011 (which marked Rahman’s first episode as a screenwriter) and the film’s Will also handle the work of music.

Marketing and release
