NDTV’s Raja Sen rated the film 4 out of 5 stars and said, “Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, a Dalit story that throws light on India’s early hip-hop subculture, is the first great Hindi film of 2019 and is a story of courage. There are characters without space to breathe who express themselves breathlessly through a style of music that has always been marginalized. Disagreements find a way out – and a beat.”
