The Burning Problem of India Or The problem of Unemployment In India Or Any Burning Problem (M.P. Board 2009, 2010, 2012)
Unemployment has emerged as a major national issue. It is increased day by day for the last several decades. This is the burning question of today. We see long queues in front of employment offices. This problem of unemployment is troubling our planners since independence. India’s population has already crossed the alarming level of 1200 million. Such a huge and unusual growth of population has thwarted all calculations and plans.
There are many factors or reasons which are responsible for the massive unemployment in the country. Firstly, the population is increasing very rapidly. Employment opportunities have not increased with population growth. Population growth has to be controlled to eliminate unemployment.
Education has reached the remotest villages of India. Educated people run to cities in search of jobs. We see many graduates and matriculation pass-outs running after white-collar jobs.
They do not like to work in factories, mills, or farms. This has increased unemployment.
With the advent of automated machines, employment opportunities in offices have decreased. Moreover, educated people do not like to work in villages. To end this trend, factories should be established in the villages. Then the youth stopped coming to the cities.
India is primarily an agricultural country. There is no shortage of raw materials in India. If we want to control the increasing pressure of unemployment then we have to make India an industrial country.
The government should plan in such a way that men and women get the full benefit from it. Our education system is not job-oriented. There is no vocational training in our schools or colleges. Most people do not like to work with their hands. Small or rural industries have been badly neglected. Cottage industries can adopt most of our unemployed youth. If we had adopted rural industrialization, cottage and small-scale industries instead of setting up big industrial projects worth crores, then the problem of unemployment would have been solved to a great extent.
Our government is fully aware of the dire consequences of the problem of unemployment. The new education policy emphasizes vocationalization and separation of degrees from jobs. Small scale industries are being set up and every possible encouragement is being given to educated youth to set up their own enterprise.
