A Visit to a Historical Place Essay Or A Visit to the Taj Mahal Essay

A Visit to a Historical Place Or A Visit to the Taj Mahal Essay

I had a great desire to see the Taj Mahal, the most beautiful and unique mausoleum in Agra. So, I used this kind of invitation sent to me by my dear friend for summer vacations. I had heard a lot about the beauty of the Taj Mahal and how the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the world famous mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal at a great cost as a symbol of his great love for her . It is said that it took twenty years to build and twenty thousand people were employed to complete it.

I reached the Taj with my friend in the evening just before sunset. We went to the beautiful garden and enjoyed its direct walk, tall black cypress trees, smooth green lawns, gleaming flower beds and its twinkling fountains. The wonder of the world stood before us. I thought it was all white marble. I enjoyed the view of the four high white marble minarets raised in the middle of a magnificent white dome at each corner of the raised platform on which stood the great tomb.

At a distance, the Taj Mahal looked small and delicate like a fairy palace but as I got closer, I saw how big and majestic it was. When we climbed the marble steps, it seemed that the dome had climbed high into the blue sky and clouds of red and gold in the sunlight. The movement was standing on the bank of river Yamuna. The river water was absolutely gold in the glow of the sunset and made the building more beautiful than ever.

We went inside. We saw the marble tomb inside. They were decorated with beautiful screens of precious stones and carved marble. There, we thought of the lovely queen whose body was lying down and of the great love of the king who had spent his money in building a beautiful monument for her. The original tomb of the queen is housed in a small room, which can be reached by descending a few steps. The hall was fascinating for its most beautiful patterns of marble work. The pavement was built with squares of white and black marble. Everything in this hall, that is, the walls, screens and tombs, are all covered with inscriptions from the Quran. There are also beautiful flower designs of different colors and studded with precious stones.

When it was full moon, I persuaded my friend to take me again to see the Taj. We enjoyed the wonderful moon. It looked like a pearl building or a palace made of silver. It looked like it was made of white clouds. The shining white marble, the black shadow, the soft moonlight, the silence, and the fragrant garden all made it up. The sight should never be forgotten.

The poets have described the Taj differently. It has been described as “poem in marble” or “dream in marble”. Late world famous and Nobel laureate poet, Rabindranath Tagore wrote many poems on Taj Mahal which are very fine. No photographic description or picture can describe its absolute beauty.

Every year thousands of tourists come from far and wide to see the Taj Mahal, so it is not surprising that. Actually, it is one of the seven wonders of the world.
