Interesting facts about Bharat Ratna.

Today we are talking about the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna. To whom is the Bharat Ratna given, when it is given, why it is given? You will get answers to all these questions today…

1. Bharat Ratna was launched on 2 January 1954 by the then President of India, Rajendra Prasad.

2. Bharat Ratna is given to a person who has shown unprecedented and unexpected service to humanity in any field.

3. While giving Bharat Ratna, race, region, language, gender or caste etc. is not taken into consideration. But gender discrimination is evident because so far 45 people have received Bharat Ratna out of which 40 are male and 5 are female.

4. The honor is conferred by the President of India on 26 January. 

5. Initially it was said that after death, no one will get Bharat Ratna but after 1955 started getting it.  The first Bharat Ratna was awarded to Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji posthumously. So far 12 people have received Bharat Ratna after their death.

6. Bharat Ratna has been awarded to 21 leaders more than any other region. Of these, 15 belong to Congress and 3 of them belong to Nehru family.

7. The Prime Minister sends a recommendation to the President for Bharat Ratna, but it has also happened that the Prime Minister has given himself the Bharat Ratna. Because Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi got this award while still in office.

8. The point is in 1977 when the Janata Party government stopped giving Bharat Ratna. But in 1980, the Congress government resumed it.

9. After the death of Subhash Chandra Bose, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1992 but was later withdrawn.

10. It was never written that Bharat Ratna would be given only to an Indian citizen. So far 2 foreigners have received this award. The first was given to Abdul Ghaffar Khan in 1987 and the second to Africa’s mass leader Nelson Mandela in 1990.

11. Bharat Ratna can only be given to a maximum of 3 persons in a year and it is not that it is given every year. Because 1959, 1960, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1973, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996 were such years  When no one was awarded the Bharat Ratna.

12. Bharat Ratna cannot be used as title with name.

13. No amount is given with Bharat Ratna. But one gets a certificate signed by the President and a medal along with it. The price of this medal is about Rs 2,57,732.
