PM Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme: Homes will get free electricity

Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme is an ambitious scheme which will be applicable from 1 April 2025. Under this scheme:

  • 1 crore homes will get 300 units free electricity every month from Rooftop Solar System
  • Families will save Rs 15,000 to 18,000 annually
  • There will be facility in charging electric vehicles
  • Employment and entrepreneurship opportunities will increase in solar sector

This scheme will not only provide financial benefits to the families, but will also help in environmental protection. The use of solar energy will reduce carbon emissions and will promote clean energy.

Unified Pension Scheme (UPS): Big relief for central employees

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has announced the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for central government employees. The scheme will be applicable from 1 April 2025. Its main features are:

  • Minimum Rs 10,000 monthly pension guaranteed
  • Employees have to contribute 10% of their basic salary and dearness allowance every month.
  • Employees with existing NPS cover and new employees admitted after 1 April 2025 will be eligible for this scheme

The scheme will provide economic security to central employees after retirement and help maintain their standard of living.

GST exemption: Relief on many items

The government has announced exemption or decrease in GST on many items. This step has been taken to relieve the general public and speed up the economy. There are some major changes:

  • Foods: Fresh milk, yogurt, lassi, eggs, fruits and vegetables in 0% GST category
  • Medical Equipment: GST reduction on medicines and medical devices
  • Electronics: BCD lower up to 5% on LCD and LED components
  • Leather Industry: BCD exemption on weight blue and crust leather imports

TDS boundary increase: relief to taxpayers

The government has increased the limit of tax deducted at source (TDS) in various categories. This step has been taken to simplify the tax process for middle income groups. There are some significant changes:

  • TDS limit on interest for senior citizens increased from 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000
  • TDS limit increased from 5,000 to 10,000 rupees on dividend
  • TDS limit on rent increased from 2,40,000 to 6,00,000 rupees (in financial year)
  • TDS limit increased from 30,000 to 50,000 rupees at fees of professional or technical services

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana: Poor people will continue to get free ration

The government has decided to carry forward the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana. Under this scheme:

  • 80 crore poor people will get 5 kg wheat or rice and 1 kg free every month
  • This facility is in addition to the subsidized ration available under the National Food Security Act (NFSA)
  • The objective of the scheme is to provide food security to poor families

The scheme was launched during the Kovid-19 epidemic and has now been carried forward so that poor families will get nutritional assistance.

New Skilling Program: Employment opportunities for youth

The government has announced a new scheme for skill development of youth. The main things of this program are:

Credit Guarantee Scheme: MSMES will get financial support

  • MSMEs will be able to get a term loan of up to Rs 100 crore without any collateral
  • Provision of credited and a self-funded guarantee fund
  • Fund guarantee encouraged by the government to ensure the continuity of credit to MSMEs during stress
